Wetton was part of the Commonwealth Games Birmingham 2022 which made history as the:-

  • First Games to award more medals to women than men
  • Largest-ever integrated programme of para-sport
  • 43 nations and territories win medals at Birmingham 2022, equalling the record from Gold Coast 2018.
  • the games were the largest ever held, with 72 participating nations and over 1.3 million ticket sales
  • First time such a large event was organised and considered the health protocols and hygienic cleaning requirement to combat a global pandemic

John Crabtree, Chair of Birmingham 2022, said: “The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games has been an incredibly successful event, from the packed venues to the bustling city squares, from the warm welcome to the outpouring of pride and joy across the city and region. We were always confident that people across Birmingham and the West Midlands would embrace the Games, but the reaction has surpassed even our expectations."

“The success of Birmingham 2022 is down to the partners and supporters, but principally the thousands of people, our workforce, volunteers and every spectator.”

Wetton joined forces with the NHS Deep Cleaning and Advisory Service to deliver hygiene cleaning services and Wetton provided all the cleaners and management teams to our allocated venues. We were one of the first companies to accredit all of our operatives before the games commenced, providing over 320 operatives across the various venues.

Our cleaning teams thoroughly enjoyed working with the CWG representatives to deliver a smooth operation that was months in the planning. It was a fantastic atmosphere to work in and a real bond was formed among the Wetton team that had been put together specifically for the Games.

CWG representative Deborah Sackett said, "NTH along with their partner Wetton supplied over eight venues for Road Races, Triathlons, Lawn Bowls, Time Trials, Beach Volleyball, 3 x 3 Basketball, Festival Site, Athlete Village cleaning, Training Ground, Athlete Accommodation cleaning and embraced this with enthusiasm to be part of the team."

"They came to the table with a can-do attitude, and a willingness to solve challenges that were brought to the table from the off and through the games period. The team delivered services to additional venues, when the incumbent cleaning contractor could not deliver the extra services required by B2022."

Our Wetton cleaning teams enjoyed themselves so much that they said, it was hard work but they would gladly work on these large-scale events every month.
